Introduction to material science and Engineering :-

Material Science :- involves the relationships that exist between the structure and properties of materials.

Material Engineering :- on the basis of these structure- property correlation , designing or engineering the structure of materials to produce a predetermined a set of properties .

Structure of a material usually relates to the arrangement of its internal components.

1- Subatomic structure :- involve the electrons with in individual atoms and interaction with their nuclei.
2 – Microstructure :- can be directly observed using the microscope and involves large groups of atoms that are normally agglomerated .
3- Macrostructure :- represent the structural element that can be viewed with naked eye.

Properties :- the mainly properties of material.

The properties of solid materials can be grouped into six different categories :-
Mechanical , Electrical , Thermal , Magnetic , Optical , and deteriorative properties .
