In this lecture the binary number system and its relationship to other number systems such as decimal , hexadecimal , and octal is presented. Arithmetic operations with binary numbers are covered to provide a basis for understanding how computers and many other types of digital systems work.

many specialized codes are used in digital systems. let s look at a few others. some codes are strictly numeric like BCD and others are alphanumeric ; that is , they are used to present numbers, letters, symbols, and instructions.like ASCII codes.
